It seems that agriculture is one of the “Bright Spots” in this very volatile international economy. However, it isn’t so bright if you got flooded out or parched dry by the ever variable weather.  Since these letters are supposed to be giving you helpful information, we will repeat some topics that may have been covered before, but now have more urgency.

CROP INSURANCE: I started talking about not having “normal” weather anymore back in the 70’s. I don’t think there is much question that weather is starting to get more unpredictable and more severe. That is what the government scientists are saying. Warming or cooling? Who knows for sure, but right now the penguins are starting to take off their tuxedo coats and just wearing white shirts. What we do know is that CO2 levels are rising and are way above what we can deduce from ancient ice and other methods in the last few thousand years. Since you or I can’t change that ourselves in the short term, crop insurance is the logical choice to shield yourselves from the unpredictability. You can’t afford not to consider it for each crop planted.

PLAN B: Also, along that same line, I would suggest you always have a “Plan B” for your cropping schedule and enact it quickly. Be prepared to take a damaged crop down quickly and have an alternate or second planting of the same in mind. If the crop is still viable, it needs immediate foliar feeding to boost its energy available for recovery. One of the best sprays would be 2 qts Fish Agra, 1 pint Nitrozyme (seaweed) and 1-3 #s sugar and/or 2-3 qts molasses. If you have Tainio products on hand, Pepzyme, Micro 5000 or PZ 1000 can be used. Baicor users should reach for their Plant Stimulator. Those using Broadcasters may need to use the field drying formula and/or several other GW field sprays to answer specific problems.

EQUIPMENT USE EFFICIENCY: With record gas and diesel fuel prices, multitasking while going across a field seems like a no-brainer. If I was still farming, I would have saddle tanks that could contain two different solutions and the ability to put out one in the front with a boom (spray or drop nozzles) and one out the back with capability of foliar feeding, injecting in row, injecting side dress, etc. I would also have a seeder on the front that could spread ahead of cultivators/planters/harrows/discs etc. so I could be putting in a cover crop at any stage of the economic crop or spreading the economic crop itself. You are only limited by your imagination.

MULTI-CROPPING: Having two crops growing at the same time helps use up more CO2 as well as providing ground cover/heat protection, moisture retention; weed suppression, and nitrogen fixation if using a legume. Some crop duos could be planted the same time or the second crop could go in at any cultivation, etc. Aerial seeding is also a possibility. Over the years, I have had many a grower tell me how there just isn’t enough time between harvest and freezing to get anything to grow! And I can recall many years where it would have worked if they had just done it. “Bin run” oats or any other grains are very inexpensive and can be used as cover crops. Annual rye grass will certainly grow in fall wet, cool conditions. Broadcast with the equipment modifications mentioned above while disking down stubble or chisel plowing. Hugh Lovel proved how compatible soys and corn can be. Would you rather buy oil-based N?

GET OFF OF OIL BASED CHEMICAL RESCUE NOW! Are you still insisting that your particular crop or crops “just can’t be grown organically”? Try going to a health food store or progressive super market and I defy you to not find an example of your crop(s) as a primary or secondary ingredient. You don’t have to go certified organic. Just use the techniques that are known in the industry to apply to your situation.

REMINERLIZATION-PHOSPAHTE: According to a report in the Energy Bulletin, a research and statistical analysis using “Hubert Linearization” by physicist Patrick Dery, phosphorous supplies have “peaked” on a world wide basis. He estimated that P peaked in the US in 1988 and peaked in the world in 1989. Now you may begin to understand why MAP and DAP are over $1000/ton. This makes TN Brown Rock/Phos look very appealing price-wise, even though the price is up significantly FOB the mine in TN.  If you need phosphate, please don’t wait much longer. Schedule/budget to get your fields up to adequate or better levels in the next few years as TN Brown is a finite source that we will continue to offer until it’s gone!

REMINERALIZATION-SULFUR: CSI continues to see 99% of soil tests coming through very deficient in S. Sulfur prices skyrocketed this winter, but our KS Plus only went up a little in comparison. The mine has undergone a whole new upgrade and will be ready for fall shipments. Sulfur is the key to efficient N utilization!

REMINERALIZATION-TRACES: All our mineral products continue to provide broad spectrum traces as part of their natural makeup. Green Sand, TN Brown Phos, KS Plus, Calcium Silicate and NM Humates are all loaded with traces. Natural AG Gypsum provides a few traces, but even our liquids such as Fish Agra, Nitrozyme, Min-Tec Sea Water and our bacterial products contain many trace minerals.

BIOACTIVATION: This can be a very frustrating part of the program/equation. No one can predict with certainty when Mother Nature will let the microbes flourish again in conventionally farmed soils. What is keeping them from flourishing can also be a mystery. We know compaction (lack of oxygen) can be a major problem, but there are so many possible contaminants in very small quantities that it would be financially impossible to test for every compound. My best advice is to keep on keeping on as time, patience and continued use of good clean materials is the only way it will ever happen!

LEAF pH IS A KEY: Monitoring tissue pH with portable meters from Pike Labs –http://pikeagri.com/ – and foliar spraying accordingly will assist. As Bruce Tainio says, as the pH goes up from 6.4 insect attack probability increases; as pH goes down from 6.4, disease probability increases.

ENERGY CAPTURE/USE: One or more of the contaminants holding back biology may be energies or frequencies. The energy patterns of chemical contaminants may be just as much a factor in suppressing biology as the actual chemical compound. Remember that living cells are about 100 times more sensitive to frequencies than to the chemical compound. That means all the new microwave frequencies may/can/will have a negative effective because nature has never experienced them before.

Basic energy manipulation is just using Ream’s technology to apply fertilizers, either ground or foliar, at the right time to tweak the plant do what you want it to do. Since there are only two things the plant can do, grow or reproduce, the concepts are fairly easy to use. Positive or sweet things cause plants to grow (Ca+, K+) with two special cases (Cl- and NO3-) also as growth factors. Negative or sour things make plants reproduce (SO4-, P2O5-) again with two special cases (Mn+, the seed of life and NH4+). The next basic use of energy by CSI is the use of a Radionic device (Electronic Scanner) to make sure any input we supply is not only compatible, but energy enhancing as well. Why would you want to buy and apply something that is going to produce no increased energy when the whole plant/soil system you’re working with depends completely/entirely on multiple energy systems?

Advanced energy manipulation includes the use of Rudolph Steiner’s original concepts of cosmic energy commonly known as biodynamics, but with the modern refinements and updates of many, particularly, Greg Willis. CSI uses his field sprays in our Broadcaster/Field Tuners with great success. Veges™ Sound Machines are also examples of very effective, yet inexpensive, energy adding devices. Taking the opposite approach, a Symphony™ device eliminates dissonant energy patterns mostly from microwaves that can reduce or sicken your crop and negatively effect your livestock. Consider the Vege™ and/or Symphony™ with high value crops.

INSTALLING OUR FIRST SYMPHONY UNIT: The Symphony unit invented by Bruce Tainio is an amazing device. Ron & I traveled to the Cleveland, OH area to do our first installation on a beautiful residential setting on a river. The person purchasing the unit isextremely sensitive to electromagnetic frequencies. They had already purchased Concerto units for their home and were very pleased with the relief offered. Since they had a huge yard and wooded area down to the river, the Symphony provided the chance to clean up the “dirty energy” associated with micro-waves. The effect was immediate! The person’s polite countenance turned into a broad smile within seconds of turning on the Symphony unit. The next day they reported a major change in the excitability of their small dogs, increased bird presence and bird vocals. As they traveled to a nearby location, they felt the loss and then return of the signal at about 2.5-3 miles out. If any of you know of any game preserves, parks, zoos in your area, I think we can guarantee increased animal health and increased numbers’s of game animals coming into the treated area. The first use of a Symphony was on government forest land and animal attraction was one of the first effects noted.

TOO SMALL FOR SEMI-LOADS: Sociologists tell us that cooperation is almost always beneficial. We have had quite a few farmers start to bring in semi-loads of minerals and share them with other farms. Humates and TN Brown are the only ones that have 1 ton “Tote” bags available, but Amish farmers know they can handle a shovel, weigh at a local elevator and split bulk materials equitably. Another alternative is to approach a relatively close composting site that can bring in semi-loads and then blend for you.  With that in mind, CSI is pleased to announce that blends are now available through us from a compost site in central Michigan…

BLENDED FERTILIZERS: CSI is now offering a blended fertilizer through a composting site in central MI. Most of the major components come from the local area or other parts of MI. This will enable us to offer very low prices compared to other blends such as Fertrell out of PA, Ohio Earth Foods or Midwestern Bio-Ag. All have NOP/organic approval, but the buyer is responsible for making sure his certifier approves. Blends will be available through CSI in bulk or tote bag semi loads only. Materials include:

Poultry Compost: 3-8-2;                       Feather Meal: 14-0-0;              Meat & Bone Meal: 8-13-2;

Wood Ash: 0-0-2;                                TN Brown Phos: 0-3-0 (It actually is about 10-12% available);

Chilean Nitrate of Soda: 16-0-0;           K-Mag: 0-0-21-11Mg-22S;    Gypsum: 21%Ca, 16%S;

Hi-Cal Lime: 36.7 Ca, .5% Mg;            KS Plus: 0-0-7-15S-1Fe;        90% Disintegrating Sulfur: 90%S

Current trace minerals on site include Boron 10%, Copper 25%, Manganese 32% &  Zinc 36% all as elemental %’s. Pricing is based on current market pricing. As an example, we ran a formula for a 2-5-2 product that would sell for about $200/ton FOB. If you are using a trailer with pup that holds 40 ton, the freight can be under $20/ton in MI. I don’t think you can take the 40 tonners down into OH, IN & IL (check with your Dept Of Transportation).

You will be getting an “organic product”, loaded with broad spectrum trace minerals and lots of high quality bacteria & fungi IF compost is used as a base. Recommended rates would be 400-1000# per acre broadcast or 200-400#/A in row. Some formulas may go through fertilizer boxes and others would not.

PROGRAMS THAT WORK: 1. The following is reported by a blueberry farmer inMichigan concerning his 08 crop. Applications include 3 yards Morgan compost, 200 #’s Tn Brown, 100 #’s gypsum, and 100 #’s feather meal per acre. At petal fall, 100 #’s of ammonium sulfate was added. Banded liquids included humic acid, Fish Agra, seaweed, phos acid, trace minerals and ammonium thiosulfate. Foliar feeds at 10 day intervals consists of Fish Agra, seaweed, amino acid chelated traces, liquid calcium, phos acid and sugar. He achieved 13-15 Brix in the leaf tissue in mid-June and 15-19 in late June. Set was heavy! The same foliar feeds were used last fall, after harvest, which is a great way to reduce or eliminate freeze damage in our MI climate.

2. A SW Michigan wine grape grower had a serious problem in summer of 07. Drift of an illegal chemical had hit most of his vines and they were in a weakened condition. The Univ. expert predicted he would probably suffer a lot of winter damage/kill. Once he contacted CSI he started on a foliar spray based on the electronic scanner results. He also soil tested and began the remineralization and bioactivation stages. The seven foliar sprays before winter set in enabled him to avoid the predicted damage and the offending party paid for all materials, time and fuel for the rescue. He attended last Dec.’s Radionics Class in Louisville and uses a device.

His liquid soil activation program only called for molasses and Pepzyme M. He left a standing cover crop on as well. In his own words, “My blue clay turned into 3.5 feet of dark soil this spring. Three long term workers verified his findings and they were all astounded to discover this while digging some post holes.

This spring and summer he applied GW Ag Field Sprays as directed. The grapes were fungus free in a cool damp climate in an area rampart with fungal diseases. The vines went on to produce what looks now like an above average yield of 4.5-5 tons/A which are worth $1500/ton or more. He plans to install a Broadcasting Tower this fall so he can easily add GW Action Field Sprays to react to any crop or weather situation. Since the use of compost is vital for disease control, this grower has begun producing compost, using GW Ag specifications.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH GW SPRAYS: I have previously reported on the fungus problem in my Phlox and this year I again re-sprayed the two Ultra Combo Sprays (Winter/Spring and Summer/Fall) and his Super Strength Fungus Interruptus. The fungus is not on the Phlox this year even though there are some dead, dried up leaves!!! NOW THAT IS AMAZING!

THANKS FOR YOUR BUSINESS: CSI nearly doubled its sales in 07. Thankfully, Ron Ward was on board for 3 weeks per month as a consultant to “Help-Out”. He will continue in 08!

THE FERTILIZER CRISIS: Wouldn’t you know it! As soon as commo­dity prices to growers started to improve someone would be there to get their cut by raising your input costs. There are both cost and supply problems in the commercial fertilizer market. Heavy purchasing by China and other countries are influencing both. Fuel prices have increased manufacturing or processing costs. And of course there is just plain old greed. While I was typing this, one potash source went up $65/ton and another went up $40 and that price is only good till end of Feb.! NAFTA, CAFTA & SHAFTA!!!

PHOSPHOROUS: There is a severe shortage of phosphoric acid on a world wide basis. MAP & DAP prices are in the high $400’s or more. What can you do to deal with this situation? One of our dealers – a long time consultant in IL  – did the math on MAP & DAP and showed his growers they could buy units of P₂O₅ at a little over half price by using TN Brown Phos. He sold over 50 truckloads last fall! But, there’s more to maximizing your phos $ than buying it right.

We know that molasses stimulates the phosphatase bacteria that can make P available in your soil. We know that mycorrhizea colonization of your roots can dramatically increase the uptake of P by extending the overall surface area for absorption as well as the soil area accessed. We know that RESTORE can increase the colonization of mycorrhizea on your crops. The acids from mycorrhizea are stronger than root extrudates. Good mycorrhizea colonization reduces weed pressure and releases Silica which is vital to plant growth and health. We know that pre-emerge herbicides and fungicides damage a lot of these plant-like helpers.

Your choices are limited for buying actual P. Natural phosphates like TN Brown; manure & compost sources containing expensive P that has been purchased as a feed supplement and run through the animal; liquid P sources or fish hydrolysates are available. If you have low phosphate soils, I urge you to get them up to par soon as P will never again be “cheap”. Even those trying to use 10-34-0 or other “hot mixes” such as 9-19-9 for “efficiency” are still going to be paying the price.

POTASSIUM: There is no real shortage of potash since lots Western Canada is underlain with KCl [0-0-60/62]. However, market forces are driving up prices way beyond costs of mining and processing or recovery as in the case of 0-0-50. For those with low K and low Magnesium, K-Mag is still a reasonable alternative, but price is jumping. For those with medium K, high Magnesium and low sulfur, KS Plus works very well. KS Plus is very effective in knocking Magnesium off the colloid. Be sure to use a surfactant on the soil to help move the active Sulfur down through the soil. For those few of you with low to medium K and adequate or high Sulfur, Green Sand will work very well. Non-Organic certified farms could also use Ammonium Sulfate and Green Sand to fill in the K and S. Those just lacking S, our 90% Disintegrating Sulfur would work well. About 99% of the soil tests coming through are lab are very short of sulfur.

So we are now at a point where lowly Green Sand & KS Plus at 7% K are the same price per unit of K as the “Big Boys”. In addition, you are getting loads of trace minerals including silica with Green Sand and a good selection of traces and very high “potential energy” with KS. KS Plus also increases the efficiency of N to produce higher “true protein” crops. If you have access to manure/compost or sawdust, you should be considering them for more K. Lots of aged sawdust is still lying around going to waste. Always look for “free for the hauling” situations. And please make sure you handle your crop residues correctly/efficiently/biologically. You can’t afford to have undigested crop residue that could be next year’s fertility.

Total analysis content of soils shows up to 10 times the K you will see on your CEC. KS Plus can help make this hidden K available. Also the more biologically active your soil, the more you can access this Total K (Sounds like a cereal!) So consider……………..

NEW BACTERIA: CSI is always searching for new, effective and cost efficient products. We will begin offering a new multi-strain soil bacteria called Bio-D. This is a certified organic product with enzymes and humic acid. At one gallon per 8 acres, it is very cost effective and well proven.

Note: The National Soil Tilth Lab research shows that only about 10% of raw corn stalks, leaves and cobs are recaptured as active humus if they’re left on the surface or turned under without a biological breakdown inoculant.

QUANTUM AG: The best way I can think of to counteract the high fertilizer costs is to use the Energy concept. Steiner identified most of the FREE energies in the 1920’s and showed growers how to capture them. A Quantum Ag Broadcaster allows you to use these energies at about a one time cost of $1-5/acre for 7-10 years depending on the size of your farm. Even at $20 per acre it’s a bargain! Thanks to Greg Willis of GW Agriculture, we now have a whole set of what I call “Action Preps”. They allow you, the grower, to take specific action or procedure to influence your soil, plant or atmosphere by placing a special Prep in either or both of the top or bottom wells of your broadcaster. You could increase the rate of growth; start fruiting/graining processes; enlarge or ripen above ground fruit; enlarge or ripen root crops; protect against frost; help dry up a wet field; increase leaf size and much, much more.

Greg has directions for each Prep – what it’s for, when to put in your tower, which well(s), and when to take out. Now we use only homeopathic medicines worth 200 or 250 rupees” said Jeet Lai, a farmer. Swami Parmanand, BS, says he learned to make homeopathics from hermits living in theHimalayas. They cost much less than chemicals, and according to farmers using them, give better results. “They give good results, have no harmful effects and improve the taste of the crops” he says. Research on this approach is being conducted at four state universities. Tests on potato and wheat were “satisfying”. “It has good effect on environment and mud,” said B.B. Rai, Director of the Allahabad Agricultural Institute. Note: Stay tuned to our website regarding this topic.

Remember, everything occurs in nature for a purpose. Fighting what are normally considered “bad” things with poisons is counterproductive. You have to understand why the weed, fungus, bacteria or virus are there and then correct the problem, not kill the messenger. The other important concept is that You Are Not Powerless. You have “freewill” which your crops and soil do-not have. Big Pharma, Big Communication, Big Chemical, Big Food Processors, Big Banking, Big Government all like to make you think you have no control over anything! Take charge of your farm entity and control it. You have that Quantum Ability!

Bruce Tainio has shown that plants can function very well at various levels of fertility as long as nutrients are in a reasonable balance and the soil is biologically active. Farmers with heavy soil may find themselves having to balance “below” recommended Albrecht levels and concentrate on biological activation and energy gathering and dispersing.

COLONY COLLAPSE DISORDER: Greg also has a new “kit” to reduce the symptoms of CCD, which turns out to be a “threshold disease” resulting mostly from environmental pollution factors adding the final straw to already under mineralized, fungal and mite weakened bees. Call him for kits.

NEW NOP(???) INSECTICIDE: CSI is working with a manufacturer of a natural, multi-oil based insecticide, Clean Green BP, to try to make it NOP compliant. See your 08 price list. We will continue to carry Crop Guard EC, our NOP Garlic & Yucca product.

NEW SEA WATER PRODUCT: After careful analysis, CSI has chosen to handle MIN-TEC concentrated sea water. It is NOP – certified organic. We chose it because it is concentrated by a factor of 5, but still retains the live bacteria and original sodium. 99.9% of our customers are short of Na in their soils! We also chose it because it is very inexpensive in comparison to other similar products. The manufacturer claims to have eliminated scab on wheat at the 1qt/A rate. MIN-TEC is compatible with Fish Agra and Nitrozyme. We hope you will give it a try.

CALCIUM SILICATE IS BACK: Calcium silicate slag [not NOP] is again available as a bulk or tote bag fertilizer OR drum blended with TN Brown Phos at 50:50 ratios. The silica can increase the efficiency of your nutrient uptake through the silica, boron, calcium connection. See 08 PL.

LIVESTOCK GENETICS & NUTRITIION: Recent studies have shown the environmental and nutritional state of the maternal grandmother ewe expressed itself in the male & female lambs that were her grandchildren. This “proves” two powerful points that sometimes cause arguments about how Nature vs. Nurture works. Genetics does count, but environment and nutrition can affect the “expression” of the genes. Keep this in mind when reading the page on human health.

CALENDER: Phil will be a @ TOFGA conf. in TX on Feb. 1-3. He & Louisa will proceed to Mexico & won’t be back till March 9^th. Ron will be on duty in their absence. HUMAN HEALTH SECTION

As I did in 07, I began 08 with a seven day Fast! That’s right, no food for seven days. The fast protocol we used was from a book, Healing for the Age of Enlightenment, by Stanley Burroughs, ISBN

#0-9639262-1-7. The only intake was a minimum of six, 10 ounce glasses of water with fresh lemon & lime juice with maple syrup added for minerals and carbs and a touch of cayenne pepper. I kept up my normal exercise and work schedule, so obviously there was enough energy in the drink to take care of body needs. I added 30 drops per day of the ZNatural zeolite product to help take out more toxins. [ZNatural has replaced the Waiora NCD product.] The day before I started I received an email citing research associating toxins with weight gain. Dr. Paula Baillie-Hamilton published her work in the 2002Journal of Alternative and Complimentary Medicine. When the liver is overloaded with toxins, weight loss efforts may be blocked. An overloaded liver cannot efficiently burn body fat.

Does fasting do any good? It may not be for everyone, especially those that are highly dependent on a daily intake of protein. I am now 69. I have no arthritis, no back pain, no diabetes, no cancer, no heart problems and no physical limitations on what I can do. I haven’t taken an antibiotic in over 20 years and use $10 magnifiers for reading small print. Since I have just started fasting late in life, I can’t credit that. Genetics obviously helps. A recent large scale study showed that you can gain 14 years lifespan by four simple rules. 1: Don’t smoke. 2: Exercise regularly. 3r drink very moderately. 4: Have 12-16 servings everyday of fruits and vegetables. I would add: Don’t drink anything in an aluminum can and don’t drink soda at all. Don’t eat processed meats containing nitrates and use honey, real maple syrup or other natural sweeteners instead of sugar. My belief is that what helps me the most is that I DO NOT BELIEVE IN BEING SICK!

I also received 6 page monograph entitled Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity: Biological Effects of Dirty Electricity with Emphasis on Diabetes & Multiple Sclerosis, published byElectromagnetic Biology and Medicine, 25: 259-268, 2006. This monograph gave me a useful word – “Dirty Electricity” – to help answer all the questions I get about why we should use items like the BioPro cell-phone chips or the Tainio home unit Concerto. The article did confirm my explanation that is was the extra frequencies that come along with what should be a “clean” 60 cycle sine wave from your home current. Some of the sources of Dirty Electricity include: Computers, variable speed motors, TVs, energy efficient appliances and lighting, power tools, cell phone antennas, broadcast antennas and many, many more modern appliances.

The monograph indicated a very large number of common human ailments that can be symptoms of “radio wave sickness”. The big impacts of cleaning up the electricity were on ADD/ADHD, blood sugar levels, Multiple Sclerosis, Asthma, Chronic Fatigue, and Fibromyalgia. After Bruce Tainio’s revelations about effects on plants, I urge you to do something to clean up your homes, workshops and offices. If you’re on a tractor all day, you can wear pendent type devices to help protect yourself or use “chips” on the radios, GPS or computer equipment. I now wear a BioPro pendent 24/7/365.

Last summer I was tested with a Digital Pulse Analyzer (DPA) which measures blood pulse patterns. I then took 1 oz/day of Trilogy’s Cardio Essentials (see price sheet) and was retested 4 months later. The biological age of my cardiovascular system was shown to drop 9 years, to below my chronological age, during these four months. This stuff worked! Good Intentionality & Good Farming in 08! Dr. Phil, Louisa & Ron

GLOBAL WARMING & AGRICULTURE: Oceans and forests sequester a lot more carbon than farmland based on total surface area and other absorbing factors. However, farmers can help reduce global warming while doing a lot more to increase the efficiency of their own farming operation and the quality of their production. The main carbon sequestering involves the production of organic matter in the form of humus as well as the immediate capture of carbon by photosynthesis in the growing crop. From a practical standpoint, the increasing of organic matter/humus may mean more to the grower’s future survival than the larger implication of global warming. Increased humus is going to help provide the soil structure and moisture holding capacity for continued production under adverse weather conditions or decreased availability of irrigation water. Humus is primarily a carbonaceous, amorphous [without form] compound created by bacterial and enzymatic soil processes. Since soil carbon, as humus, holds 5 times its weight in water, its desirability is obvious.

So how do you increase humus and/or increase water holding capacity and improve structure? The benefits and shortcomings of the Albrecht [CEC] concept concerning soil structure have been discussed previously, so we will concentrate on other aspects in this message. Compost is finally getting its due in agriculture, however, the discussion and agreements of its value far outweigh the actual application. Anything you can do to acquire and apply good compost should certainly be done. Good compost teas are the next choice. Discing down of any plant material with N, sugar, microbes and enzymes results in sheet composting that provides some active humus, but probably not much long range stable humus. Active humus is great food for the next crop. For those of you who don’t have access to good compost or compost tea, what are some other alternatives?

Humates, which are ancient compost reduced to concentrated humic compounds, offer a reasonable substitute for fresh compost. They can be spread easily and are reasonably priced. CSI has seen increased truckload sales of this type of product in recent years as an indication of humus awareness. Liquid humates – in the form of humic and fulvic acids that have been extracted from humates – are available from CSI. Their ability to increase the efficiency of fertilizers and chemicals as well as increase soil activity and moisture holding capacity is well documented. Since they are applied at lower rates than dry humates (1-4 gal/acre vs. 400#/acre), they don’t impact for the long term as dry materials.

Consider Tainio enzyme products, Pepzyme M for soil, G for grasses and foliar,C for water and/or organic. Pepzyme contains enzymes from commonly occurring microbes identifiable by spectrographic analysis. These are stable products, not affected much by sunlight, ultraviolet or climate conditions. Growers have reported soil pH, softening and microbial stimulation results from using this/these products. Agri-Gro’s enzymatic product has proven itself over the years as well. Enzymes are a major factor in the production of the 8,000 to 12,000 lbs of live organisms found in each acre of living soil. Growers have reported soil pH, softening and microbial changes results from using this/these products. Enzymes are often/usually applied with microbial products.

A Florida grower and a Carolina grower tried our Aqua Hold this year on sandy soils with hay crops and both reported as being the only ones in their drought area to get good first cuttings and continued growth for second cuttings. The main mode of action is the production of polysaccharides (long chain sugar/carbon compounds) produced from simple sugar being acted upon by the special bacteria in Aqua Hold. You are not creating humus, but you are creating water holding capacity that provides the potential for plant production which can become future humus when roots decay or the above ground crop is disked down. You also are opening up soils for water penetration, structural improvements and increased bacterial activity. The late Dr. Fred Wood tried out this program in the Arizona desert sands quite a few years ago. He was amazed that he found polysaccharides down as deep as 6 feet after applying the sugar/Aqua Hold.

Another product that has shown excellent response in opening up soils is Soil Restore. It acts as both a soil conditioner and a mycorrhiza stimulant. Increasedmycorrhiza activity gives your crop greater access to nutrients – multiplies root/soil contact by as much as 3 to 8 times – under any circumstance and again increases crop production and resultant potential humus formation. Soil Restoreworks especially well in conjunction with GSR Calcium to loosen heavy, high magnesium soils and help raise brix readings. Liquid Bacteria, a sister product, works well for cleaning up toxins in soil.

 

Paramagnetism of soils is known to be a factor in both rain attraction and moisture holding capacity. It is pretty much agreed that the excessive use of 0-0-60 – potassium chloride – has destroyed the paramagnetic quality of most conventionally farmed American soils. A few years back, there was great excitement about using parametric rock to increase the paramagnetism of farmed soils. However, it soon became apparent that rather large quantities (5 tons/acre) were required to achieve noticeable results. Although some of the highest reading paramagnetic rock in the world is available out of Ontario, Canada at a very reasonable price, the freight costs to most parts of the US became prohibitive for large scale acreage. Paramagnetism can be increased by good farming practices, but it is a slow process. One way to speed this up is to use a Field Broadcaster to disseminate the energy over the farm using only about 20 lbs of paramagnetic material. (CSI has a source of inexpensive 20 lb boxes of paramagnetic rock ready to ship.)

As a broadcaster is being put into place, the paramagnetic rock is layered with healthy soil used to pack around the approximately two feet of pipe containing the bottom coil of the broadcaster. Paramagnetic rock can be placed on the surface around the broadcaster, but burying as described is much better. Restoring paramagnetism by any method increases your access to the free cosmic energies identified by Steiner, Callahan, and many others.

Specific soil processes are required to turn OM (organic matter) into humus. So take your pick of any or all of the above practices and products to improve your soil structure and moisture retention to improve your farm, prepare for more extreme weather and help combat global warming!

SULFUR DEFICENCIES IN ORGANIC CROPS: Most growers have sulfur deficiencies unless they are soil applying KS Plus, Ammonium Sulfate or Ammonium/Potassium Thiosulfate. Finding a soluble sulfur source for foliar feeding is difficult for organic growers. One of the best organic sulfur compounds is DMSO. If you can find it and purchase it directly, that’s great. If not, please note that DMSO is one of the compounds that makes our garlic & yucca product, CropGuard or RepellEx, so effective. Most alfalfa and soy growers like to keep it on hand for insect control, so if tissue test or visual signs show deficiencies, you can use it to help correct the deficiency. Use at the listed rates. Garlic is extremely penetrating and will help carry other nutrients in your spray into the plant and then disperse them uniformly.

II.         BAICOR PRODUCTS: CSI has been handling Baicor products on a limited basis for several years. We have mostly sold their chelated and complexed trace minerals that are OMRI listed. USING BIOLOGICALS: There are probably a few of you who have never used a biological or something to stimulate microbes – but I will assume most of you have. So the big question is; “If I have used a product once on my soil, do I need to use it a second time or even keep using it or switch to a different one?” Let’s look at the conditions that cause us to use a biological in the first place. Compaction It is very doubtful that all remnants of compaction would disappear after one application of any one product. Even applying calcium, ripping and adding microbes, enzymes and conditioners probably wouldn’t make everything perfect the first season. Toxicity It takes time for microbes to degrade manmade molecules. Some persist in the soil for years. Good microbes may die when coming in contact with these toxic molecules and need to have back-up or reserves to keep breaking down the structure. pH Soil pH helps determine which biologicals will survive and flourish. Some areas of your soil profile may not be in the right range to support the types you have applied. Food Supply Many biologicals are sold with a supportive food supply mixed in. What happens when the packaged food supply is used up? Can your soil supply the minerals, nitrogen, carbohydrates, cellulose and lignin necessary to support the hopefully burgeoning population of good microbes? Are your economic crops putting out enough high brix root extrudates to feed and sustain the populations you hope to build? Natural Cycles There is a natural cycle of one type of microbe consuming another and so on up the food chain. Do you have sufficient of each type to keep all the cycles going? In short, it is very doubtful that one application of a microbial package, a liquid enzyme or a homeopathic will achieve what you want.

Those of you using compost teas are certainly not going to use just one application for much of the same above reason. Microbes on leaf surfaces have the same feed and survival problem as do soil microbes and maybe a few more due to weather, air pollution, and electronic pollution which we will touch on later. So it is easy to justify the yearly use of biologicals as long as they offer a return on investment. CSI always checks a variety of biologicals available in the market place as well as the best food source for the current soil situation when you ask us for recommendations. We had an excellent response this late summer using a sugar called High Carbon Dextrose [See enclosed price list] on our lawn and flowers. I have two different annual flowers that have survived till 07 in outside boxes – in spite of quite a few nights of temperature in the low 20’s. If there is enough energy, plants can survive seemingly impossible conditions.

Beneficial fungi have probably suffered the most at the hands of chemical farming, since the main chemicals applied to soil are herbicides [plant killers] and fungi belong to the plant world. To really make fungi flourish requires use of compost, fish, vinegar, sugars and humate or humic acid materials because fungi have a much higher carbon to nitrogen ratio [C:N of 20:1]. Anyone growing perennials must repair the damage done and encourage the fungi. Even crop farmers need to bring up the fungi population to be about 80% of the bacterial population for “balanced soil”. CSI offers you high quality, whole ocean fish –  “Fish Agra” – and the other materials also.

SPEAKING OF YITTRIUM: The Jan. issue of Acres USA has an excellent article by Chuck Walters on the critical necessity of the element Yittrium to human health. It also mentions Selenium and Lanthanum as possible replacements in some situations. Although Yittrium does not appear in cell tissue, it is critical to one of our most important stomach organisms. The article doesn’t mention livestock, but you can bet there’s also a connection. Where do you get Yittrium? CSI has at least two major sources of yittrium for your crops and your own garden. First we offer our acclaimed phosphate,TN Brown, with 83.74 ppm Yittrium & 46 ppm Lanthanum. We offer Mineral Water a unique fulvic acid leachate containing significant Yittrium [36.5 ppm] and its close relative Lanthanum [22.9 ppm] as well as the Yittrium replacement Selenium [38.1 ppm]. We offer Crop Guard and Dr. Wheeler’s Garlic & Yucca animal feed supplement all containing large amounts of Selenium collected naturally from the soil by the garlic used to make the products. CropGuard can provide you with plant immunity by applying in the row or foliar feeding. CropGuard has added yucca to clog insect feeding tubes and damage egg masses. Dr Wheeler’s Garlic & Yucca feed supplement is also a rich source of Selenium and DMSO compounds, all of which are documented sources of animal and human health aids.

MAKING IT HAPPEN: If a grazing, watering situation makes it difficult to get Dr. Wheeler’s Garlic and Yucca or a Mineral Water supplement into the stock, spraying the products onto pasture or dry hay can accomplish the same thing. Most “grass fed” growers know a set level of selenium is required in stock to produce maximum expression of the existing genetics.

MINERAL WATER: It’s from an ancient seabed, so its mineral spectrum is like sea solids or seawater, but has the added fulvic acid content. We have been able to slowly lower the price to where it is at or less costly than seawater on a per acre basis. It should always be used when applying Boron to avoid the soluble borate from going below the root zone.

Recent emails from Hugh Lovel reminded me of the fact that boron releases silica, which then releases/moves calcium. His work on bananas in AU showed that the high levels of silica in the leaves correlated directly with the yield of the various plots. Boron had been applied with humic acid on the high silica leaf tissue/high yield plots. 99.9 % of tests coming through our lab – and that means that most of you – are loosing yield because your silica is not available. The rise in the use of K-Sil [Potassium Silicate] and Calcium Silicate show that silicates give a response. Green Sand is the only current organic source or use GW Ag homeopathic sprays. The second primary Steiner spray is Silica. PLEASE bring your boron levels up using Mineral Water or other humic acid in a liquid application or dry humates with dry boron products.

HOW MUCH PHOSPHATE: We have tended to not recommend Tn Brown at levels of Phosphate over 100 #/a on our CEC test. This is lower than some other systems suggest. With proper mycorrhizial inoculation, the levels are probably OK. However, with our new knowledge concerning the yittrium situation, we will start scanner checking for TN Brown if your readings are below the 200 #/a P₂O₅. If your previous CSI tests showed below that level, you’re welcome to add more TN Brown. Since the world’s phosphates are in limited supply, it just might pay to bring your levels up now. PRICE GOING UP: Regretfully and due to unavoidable circumstances at the mine site, TN Brown is scheduled to go up $5.00/ton to CSI on June 1, 07. However, CSI will hold the customer price at $65/ton through the end of 2007. Now is the time to buy!!

 

SPEAKING OF SEAWATER: CSI has been evaluating the latest “push” toward the use of seawater or solids. We have decided not to “jump in” at this time for several reasons. Why does seawater/solids give a reaction in some situations? Is it the sodium? Most of the tests coming through our lab have very low sodium readings, so one would expect an increase in ERGS or soluble salts which would give a crop response. Is it the balanced broad spectrum trace minerals? Seaweed and Ocean Fish products will give you a similar mineral spectrum with the added factor of having the minerals “tuned” by and to plant tissue, a powerful growth hormone and protein nitrogen – the key to meeting your organic N needs – and all at less cost per acre. So if you haven’t Remineralized – added the minerals you know are low or missing from reasonably priced sources – and Bio-Activated then we humbly suggest you start there.

RADIONICS CLASS: The 3 day pre-Acres class went very well with eight students completing the course and all appeared to be able to competently operate a device for a variety of uses. It should be noted that each of the eight students had a device to work on throughout the entire class without having to “share” as some students brought their own devices and CSI provided some loaners. What was really surprising is that the scheduled 1 ½ hour Radionics workshop during the Acres convention attracted about 250 attendees! It sparked many requests for 3 day class prior to the 2007 Acres in Louisville, KY. Please help us out if you’re interested in attending by letting us know as soon as possible. I am anticipating not having enough devices to keep the same one-student-to-one-device. Please put serious thought/commitment into purchasing a device if you want to come to class. EMF PLAGUE HITS AGRICULTURE! Bruce Tainio has identified actual plant damage from the same types of electromagnetic smog that prompted him to develop the Concerto unit for home use (and other companies, such as BioPro, to make “chips” for cell phones and other electronic devices). We suggest you get the tapes from his lectures at Acres 06, especially the one on “Farming in 2020”. His basic message is that it has been scientifically proven that microwave and other radio frequencies have saturated our environment and that they are beginning to affect plant growth by affecting soil, microbes and water. The prime nutrient, Calcium, is being induced to either over accumulate in plant cells or in more cases, the EMF waves are causing a back flushing of Calcium out of the plant via the roots. As Bruce points out, there is no way you are going to make the companies involved stop broadcasting all the signals that are now filling in every frequency band that nature normally didn’t have. The only thing you can do is broadcast frequencies that neutralize the effect on living systems, but not change the original function. If these fs are affecting crops, you can guess what effects they are having on livestock and humans.

Being a “Bio-Physicist”, I recognize that this is serious business. Our office has a Concerto unit and our cell phones and portable house phones all have protective Chips. We are also experimenting with other low cost devices that clean up “Dirty Electricity” in very low radio f ranges. CSI is offering the new “Symphony” units from Tainio that can protect crops and cropland. The Symphony units use a tree or other plant to broadcast the neutralizing frequencies over huge square mile areas. CSI is prepared to offer installation/consulting services. HUMAN HEALTH SECTION

By the time you read this, Louisa and I will have completed a 10 day fast. That’s right, no food for 10 days! The fast protocol we used was from a bookHealing for the Age of Enlightenment by Stanley Burroughs, ISBN #0-9639262-1-7. The only intake was a minimum of six, 10 ounce glasses of water with fresh lemon & lime juice with maple syrup added for minerals and carbs and a touch of cayenne pepper. We kept up our normal exercise and work schedule, so obviously there was enough energy in the drink to take care of body needs. I added 30 drops per day of the Natural Cellular Defense zeolite product to help take out more toxins.

The day before I started I received an email citing research associating toxins with weight gain. Dr. Paula Baillie-Hamilton published her work in the 2002 Journal of Alternative and Complimentary Medicine. When the liver is overloaded with toxins, weight loss efforts may be blocked. An overloaded liver cannot efficiently burn body fat.

I also received 6 page monograph entitled Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity: Biological Effects of Dirty Electricity with Emphasis on Diabetes & Multiple Sclerosis, published by Electromagnetic Biology and Medicine, 25: 259-268, 2006. This monograph gave me a useful word – “Dirty Electricity” – to help answer all the questions I get about why we should use items like the BioPro cell-phone chips or the Tainio home unit Concerto. The article did confirm my explanation that is was the extra frequencies that come along with what should be a “clean” 60 cycle sine wave from your home current. Some of the sources of Dirty Electricity include: Computers, variable speed motors, TVs, energy efficient appliances and lighting, power tools, cell phone antennas, broadcast antennas and many, many more modern appliances.

The monograph indicated a very large number of common human ailments that can be symptoms of “radio wave sickness”. The big impacts of cleaning up the electricity were on ADD/ADHD, blood sugar levels, Multiple Sclerosis, asthma, chronic fatigue, and fibromyalgia. After Bruce Tainio’s revelations about effects on plants, I urge you to do something to clean up your homes, workshops and offices. If you’re on a tractor all day, you can wear pendent type devices to help protect yourself or use “chips” on the radios, GPS or computer equipment.

WHO’S RIGHT & WHO’S WRONG? As in any field of endeavor, there are different interpretations of the paradigm we call Sustainable Agriculture.Let’s discuss some of them.

We can go back to Rodale and his heavy emphasis on dolomite lime. He recommended it as a source of calcium and magnesium. Reams rejected its use based on the premise that the magnesium in dolomite had bad energy patterns, tended to compact soil & promote weed growth and was antagonistic toward nitrogen – releasing it from the soil. We know Reams premise is true since magnesium sulfate is used in a foliar spray to lower excessive nitrate levels in crops that are growing too rapidly and not starting to fruit. Also, veterinarians use Epsom Salts [magnesium sulfate] to treat nitrate poisoning in livestock.

Rudolph Steiner was way ahead of the game by talking about gathering and directing/applying energy in the 1920’s. Albrecht concentrated on the application and balancing of minerals according to CEC concepts.  Reams was a contemporary of Albrecht.  He also applied minerals and talked about plants growing from energy. Philip Callahan added to the energy theme with his work on paramagnetism.

Albrecht used CEC [we consider this a mining assay] type tests, while Reams used LaMotte [available/soluble nutrient] type tests. I suspect that Steiner and Reams were probably clairvoyant while Albrecht was probably a very good, intuitive scientist.

Bruce Tainio is a more recent scientist to enter the picture. His thoughts on major minerals appear to be different from Reams. I think he is both a good scientist as well as being somewhat clairvoyant, similar to Steiner and Reams. However, he does promote mineralization a la Albrecht and uses CEC tests and not Reams tests. This presents a problem for growers who listen to those seemingly opposing views. They become confused and are unsure or just follow one camp and ignore the other. I know this, because I get calls from growers seeking clarification!

There is no need to take sides. Steiner, Reams, & Callahan are all right about the concept of energy. Plants grow from energy, not fertilize, as Reams taught. Albrecht and the others are right about mineralization and mineral balance as applied to most soils. Sometimes, in very high CEC soils, it is more economical to concentrate on biological activation and application of in row or foliar nutrients rather than trying to balance the entire field. If you use both CEC and LaMotte tests as we do here at CSI, you get a broader, better picture and you can make better decisions as to how to proceed.

The biggest difference between Reams and Tainio is the handling of potassium {K}. Reams taught that by emphasizing calcium and phosphorous over nitrogen and potassium in the soil, you would get higher brix crops and better weed control. The basis for the emphasis was on soil availability. However, Tainio found that plants need large amounts of K to express all their potential, including higher brix. His emphasis is on amounts of K inplant tissues. He wants his growers to have CEC levels of K on the upper side of the suggested Albrecht range as well as have them moderate their N usage. He uses the tissue ratio of N:K as his indicator of good balance. When the ppm of N is higher than K, it means you can’t get high brix, manganese can become excessive to the exclusion of zinc, and you won’t achieve the right pH for optimum plant health and resistance. Tainio discovered that pH is reflective of the overall frequency of the plant with 6.4 being optimum. This is in line with Reams when he worked with soil andhuman health. He wanted his client’s soil and his patient’s urine and saliva pH’s to be close to 6.4.

Tainio foliar feeds K when necessary to correct problems or force a plant to do abnormal things such as having fruit buds and set occur on the trunks and inside branches rather than on the ends as is typical. His foliar feeds can also contain other major and minor minerals.

So I don’t think there really is a conflict in any of the above paradigms or teachings of the various people mentioned. However, there is conflict in the world of biodynamics. Greg Willis and others in the US, Australia & NZ directly challenge the original interpretations of Steiner as presented by the various gurus and the Dementer® society. Since Greg is, to put it mildly,outspoken in his views, there is much harangue between the sides. My opinion is that Steiner’s early, second and third generation followers did codify his teaching a little too much and they ignored his charge to keep working on discovering more. What is not in question is that using the energies identified by Steiner can produce dramatic affects. I have directly observed them in Australia and in the US. I think that a combination of both direct spray and broadcasting through field broadcasters/towers of Steiner energies is the optimum way to take advantage of the free energies. We use Greg Willis’s sprays in the towers we sell and install because of the way he prepares them and their demonstrated power to change matter. We also sell his field sprays.

There is also conflict over colloidal clay –soft rock phosphate – and reactive rock phosphate. Reactive rock phosphate is a geological form of phosphate. Since Reams used colloidal phosphate, some followers assume nothing else is good enough. One of the unique qualities of colloidal phosphate was that it could be layered over or under high calcium lime and they would react together electrochemically, something I observed on my own farm in the 70’s. Since calcium tends to move downward, this bonding and holdingscould be beneficial. Along comes Elaine Ingham and tells us the Calcium can be held in the soil by beneficial fungi and she has photo-micrographs to prove it.

Some proponents of colloidal phosphate claim that reactive rock will tie up with calcium and revert to hard rock phosphate like ortho phosphates.  This is patently false!  I consulted with John Slack of Agricultural Mineral Prospectors Inc. from Ontario, a well known geologist.  He was aware of the misconception but could not find the source of the misinformation with a literature search.  CSI has also talked to growers whose farms had Brown Sand [the old name for TN Brown] applied years ago, and they said they could still see the effects 25 years or more later.  Tenn. Brown is a reactive phosphate, with total P2O5 lower than Carolina Black Rock, but higher than colloidal. Tenn. Brown is a lot more available than colloidal ever was and it is a lot cleaner in terms of heavy metals. It comes down more to logistics and economics rather than philosophy anyway. With the Loncala colloidal phosphate mine closed down in FL, with high fuel costs and heavy metal contaminates an issue in Florida (and most western phosphate sources), Tenn. Brown is the best game in town for sustainable/organic growers. See Analysis on page 8. Please note that the farm price went up June 1 to $65/ton bulk, FOB TN, the first price rise since CSI found the pile on private property.

The last point of contention seems to be about Elaine Ingham and her supposed claim that you don’t need to remineralize, micro-organisms can do it all. This seems to fly in the face of the most basic premise all of the previous guru’s and paradigms, which is that minerals are the basis of life and that plants consume minerals. Reams talked about green plants gathering minerals from the atmosphere, but he also emphasized applying the minerals needed to the soil. Albrecht and Tainio start with minerals and Tainio also adds microbes and enzymes. Steiner emphasized the energies, but he loved sul-po-mag, a natural mineral source of sulfur, potassium and magnesium that is now marketed as K-Mag. (CSI brokers the organic version in semi lots.)

Hope all this doesn’t confuse you! My recommendation: Remineralize, bio-activate, and manipulate/stimulate with foliar sprays and energies from sprays, broadcasters/towers and Veges Sound Machines.

CALCIUM NITRATE: The dry product seems to have unique qualities in terms of making N available to plants when used at very low rates. For awhile, Louisa was including it in our N recommendations for non-organic growers at a rate of about 20 lbs an acre with 180 lbs of ammonium sulfate in the fall or spring. We have stopped doing that because some of you don’t have the product available and we don’t want to make our recommendations any harder to follow than necessary. However, we urge you to use it if possible. Fortunately, it appears that liquid calcium products made with calcium nitrate can still provide the unique release of both Ca and N. Regretfully, organic growers cannot use it. They can, however, use liquid calcium made from chelated calcium chloride as a foliar. Be aware that you aren’t supposed to use it on soil. Personally I think that rule to be patently absurd and totally un-scientific. Oh Well! You have to play by the rules of the game you’re in.

WEED CONTROL: Early weed control usually is more of problem than later control due to lack of shading and competition by an economic crop. This year seems to have had a real onslaught of later weeds such as giant foxtail and others, depending on the location and weather. One of the ways to deal with the early weed problem is with a Veges® Sound Machine. The unique frequency and method of delivery allow the sound to travel underground and stimulate seed germination. Playing a Veges® machine for about two weeks before last fitting or planting stimulates early germinating species to sprout NOW. Remove them with the least amount of tillage just before planting to avoid bringing up more seed from greater depths. Later weeds have to be attacked from a biological standpoint. Without proper digestion and assimilation of potassium, the ragweed types come into play to correct a problem as perceived by Mother Nature. In doing some recent trouble shooting for clients, a lack of the trace minerals zinc, manganese and boron seem to be a factor. As always, the best way to minimize the impact of early or late weeds is through corrective mineralization and bio-activation.

EXPERIMENTING WITH FUNGUS: My old line Phlox flowers are doing better this year. I did mange to catch the fungus [looks like grey mold] earlier than usual. I have Greg Willis Fungus Interruptus [FI] Steiner product available, but always miss using it as early as I should. I grabbed my 3 gallon sprayer and filled it with water, then added a few good squirts of dish soap. After washing the plants with the early mold, I refilled the sprayer with water and dumped in a one lb. box of baking soda. Since it didn’t quite all dissolve, I think ¾ #/3 gal water would be better. Then I coated the plants and sprayed FI in the vicinity. The plants looked ghostly for a few days, but the majority of the fungus disappeared. I have the best blossoms ever and only a few spots came back. I sprayed FI again and the fungal growth stopped in its tracks. When used properly, with his regular Steiner sprays, I think I am bringing it under control. I have no fungus or disease on any other of a wide variety of plant and flowers. My Asiatic Lilies are 6 feet tall with stems as thick as your thumb and several Trumpet Lilies are 7 foot tall with huge flowers and a powerful, pleasant smell. I use the seasonal GW Agriculture sprays on the whole yard as well.

First, it would be a unique prill that would be dustless and flowablethrough any kind of planter. Second, it would be the only combination of TN Brown, NKS Plus, a High N Chicken Compost and special additives available in the greater Mid-west, South and East in the dustless, prill form with a NOP Organic status. Due to the nature of the compost we intend to use [a high N to Carbon ratio], the NOP true designation would be limited use organic. In July of this year a study was announced that showed most hospital patients receive one wrong medicine or dose EVERY DAY they’re in the hospital. Statistics also indicate that Doctors and the medical system behind them are the THIRD leading cause of death in the US. Something is very wrong with this picture. Those who read my Acres USA article on paradigms know that powerful money and political forces stole the medical paradigm in the first half of the 20^th century and the same forces are still at work today. However, we, the potential patients, also bear responsibility. We could talk about the Doctor as God issue, the bad food choices and lack of exercise issue, the lack of scientific education and understanding issue, and the fix me I’m sick attitude of many of Americans.

Each of us has a responsibility to stay as healthy as we can. There are lots of books out on medical self-help or first aid that can stop the need to go see a Doctor for little things. There are lots of books on Yoga and a zillion other methods of exercising. There are diet books, CDs and tapes about anything you need to know! But being busy people, we either don’t go the doctor for something serious or go late and make correcting the problem more difficult and time consuming. We also tend to go to the standard medical system if the insurance covers us. This just adds to the overall cost of the entire system. Informed consumers have learned when to go an alternative health or wellness person, whether or not it is covered by insurance. City folks may have more choices, but I have found some very good alternative practitioners in the far reaches of the US and foreign countries.

Some of the ways to avoid Dr. visits for minor infections, whether it be from small cuts, pokes, hangnails, sinus, throat or ear are as follows: I find that direct pressure on these areas can cause blood to flow to the area and bring more white cell [good guys] to the area to take out the infection. I also use silver topically, followed by Tea Tree Oil which carries the silver into the tissue and can affect both bacteria and fungus. Tea Tree Oil was used extensively by Aussie troops in WW II as it is anti bacterial, viral and fungal. Silver can also be taken internally according to directions on the product. Following up with zinc spray or lozenges for throats is very helpful. Homeopathic or colloidal silver are available in the marketplace. You can buy Tea Tree Oil in any health food store.

As reported in Acres, a British study suggests that the dietary changes of the last 50 years can be linked to the common mind problems of our day such as depression, hyperactivity, attention deficit, etc. It points to everything that’s wrong with our food, from sugar to pesticides to lack of minerals and vitamins to wrong kinds of fats. The monetary and social costs of these conditions is staggering, so a great responsibility falls to farmers to do theright thing. As usual, the powers to be are the biggest problem as they want farmers and consumers hooked on their fertilizers, pesticides, animal and human drugs, food additives, junk food and cigarettes. This is followed by being hooked on insurance, doctors, hospitals and sickness care. Raising, buying and consuming grass fed meat, milk, and butter is important as well as growing your own nutrient dense food!

All the research points to toxins as being a major cause of some of our major diseases.  In other words, we are much like our soils. The latest Swedish study shows that heavy cell phone users had a 240 % increased risk for malignant tumors on the side of the head the phone was used. Then there is the latest picture/demonstration on the web of an egg being cooked when placed between two broadcasting cell phones. Your phone is communicating with a tower [broadcasting] all the time it is on, so please don’t let anyone in your family or circle of friends – especially younger folk – use a cell phone without a chip.  The most recent research on cell functioning shows that minute amounts of electromagnetic current can regulate [help or hinder] the gene that moves new cell into the proper repair site.  Healing can be speeded up or slowed down from these currents.  This can be related back to radionics and Steiner broadcasting towers as proof that subtle energies can regulate [change] gene expression as well as condense energy into matter.  It also shows that having a “bad” gene for a known disease or condition does not mean you will get that disease or condition even though the previous generation or a sibling did.

Mental outlook and attitude continues to be a major factor as to whether the assaults on our bodies by the external and internal influences mentioned really manifest into a disease or condition.  Again, there are lots of paths to achieve a healthy mind and body, but you have to follow one or more of the paths in order to receive any results.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Thanks again for making 05 our largest gross ever.And I thought life would slow down after 65! You started buying on Jan 6^th, and didn’t stop till almost New Year’s, so I’ll put the calendar first. By the time you get this, we will be back from Brazil . I will be attending the Tainio Conf. in Spokane on Feb. 9, 10 and won’t be back till Feb 15^th. I will provide services from the road, so just follow the prompts on the 800 # recorder. We will both be in New Zealand from March 5^th till approx 15^th. I will be teaching a 3 Day Seminar and Louisa will be training staff at a new LaMotte/Reams lab. Since this is a possible busy period and we can’t service your needs ourselves, we expect to have my former partner and co-author, Ron Ward, and his spouse Dorothy help out. May 15^th begins the houseboat season, so the office will be closed most Friday’s with service via cell phone throughout the season.

AGRONOMY 101: Here are the main principles we know. All plants grow from energy, not from fertilizer. Energy sources include solar, chemical, bacterial, lunar, infrared produced by soil minerals/fertilizers when subjected to earth’s vibration due to constant lightning on a world wide basis and cosmic forces identified by Steiner. All life depends on minerals.Enzymes, vitamins, hormones, etc. all loose their function if there are no minerals. Calcium is the king of minerals, the major growth mineral and the major source of energy when other minerals interact with it. Phosphorous is the major reproductive mineral and energy producer/carrier within the plant. When we concentrate on making Ca & P available, we raise the Brix or sweetness/mineral content/nutrition of our crops. However, we can’t ignore Mg, K or S or any of the usually listed trace minerals, let alone about every known one on the chemical chart.

So how do we maximize energy gathering and use? Everyone gets a free shot at using sunlight, lunar cycles and earth’s vibration (Schuman Resonance). Conventional growers buy their chemical energy in the form of mined (KCl) & manufactured fertilizers (Phosphates and Nitrogen) and usually ignore or are unaware of bacterial energy sources. They are also unaware of the chemical energy created by the interaction of fertilizers or the FIR energies from earth’s vibration. With energy costs skyrocketing, a grower can’t afford to keep buying what is available free when nature is understood and used. The biggest “tricks” are to add calcium sources if needed, replace other minerals, add and/or stimulate microbial systems, use legumes or azobacter to fix N, add carbon through compost or manure/green manure and reduce or remove rescue chemicals.

I have to disagree with experts that say it can all be done with bacteria alone, as some of the best bacteria producers add mineral feed sources to their bacterial products. Albrecht proved that soils may recover when minerals are added/balanced.

Potassium (K) is not incorporated into plant tissue to any extent, but it is very necessary for functioning of systems within the plant. There is usually lots of K tied up in clay soils, so bio-activation may save money on future purchases. Bruce Tainio looks at K levels via plant tissue analysis and knows that if the K is not equal to or above the N, then the pH of the plant sap will not be at 6.4. It is lower than 6.4, the plant is open to plant diseases and above 6.4, insects are attracted. The reason this is important, it that at 6.4, the correct energy patterns will be generated in the plant and the infrared coming off the plant will be interpreted by insects as non-desirable food. Although K is easier to make available than calcium or phosphorous, it can be overridden by excess N, usually in the nitrate form that easily “mass flows” into the plant rather than controlled flow by bacteria and plant processes.

Magnesium has been “demonized” because of its association with dolomite lime, yet every chlorophyll molecule has a magnesium atom as part of its structure. The magnesium is the attractor and user of sunlight which starts the entire energy system of the plant.

We need boron to influence silica to move calcium, yet soils are almost always too low in B.

We need N as the electrolyte in what is essentially a “battery” system with positive and negative minerals in the soil or soil solution to make the “current” flow. Most of you who use our testing services realize we don’t make total N recommendations. We usually suggest adding 100-200 lb/a ammonium sulfate for the ammonia nitrogen and sulfate sulfur that almost all soils test low. Then we use the protein nitrogen in fish to provide a base of stress protection. How much more you need to add is up to you, keeping in mind your organic matter and legumes.

We can also increase our gathering of free energy in several unique or common ways. Good tilth increases microbial life. Adequate iron (Fe) darkens leafs and increases sunlight absorption for photosynthesis. Good soil paramagnetism increases solar/cosmic energy absorption. Lots of humus releases CO₂ which increases plant sugar production and saves moisture loss when stomata stay open for shorter periods of time. Spraying or broadcasting Steiner preparations absorbs free, specific solar and cosmic patterns. Playing Veges Sound Machines increase nutrient uptake for by root and foliar.

Therefore, sustainable agriculture means adding minerals, adding and/or stimulating microbes, adding carbon, gathering free N, and removing any input detrimental to the whole system. Herbicides and fungicides are the most damaging as it is the missing, good fungi that are a major loss of efficiency in traditional farming. Nature will reward you for your efforts.Humans for generations to come will benefit from the mineralized food which will be their medicine, not a manmade foreign molecule called a drug, sometimes sold at obscene prices.

PROGRAMS & PRODUCTS THAT WORK: A new client south of Grand Rapids went through a drought in 05. His corn, with Fish Agra in the row did much better than the “neighbors”. A pasture poultry grower used Dr. Wheeler’s Animal Toddy and suffered no losses at all and noted the legs were better than before. A southern vegetable grower noted that Diamond Back moths left his field within one hour of spraying, Fish Agra, Nitrozyme, Eezy K and molasses. A consultant used our NKS Plus with natural phosphates and humates in UT and produced the usual yield of 4^th cutting alfalfa, at double the density/weight of a bale at a Whopping RFV of 285!There is enough energy/health in that alfalfa to bring a very rare steak back to life!!

TENN BROWN PHOS: Great News! It is now available in one ton bulk bags and 50# bags, with or without pallets, in semi-loads at the mine. (See price list). Dealers/blenders are jumping on board as it finally being recognized at the premier natural/organic deposit in the US , so call about finding less than truckload quantities near you. Management has changed for the better at the holding site, so CSI can again offer Calcium Silicate [not organic, but one of the best silicates for “availability” in the world.] “scoop” blended with Tenn Brown in semi, or mixed “bagged” loads.

MAKING FERTILIZATION EASIER & LESS EXPENSIVE: When you have spread 300-500 or more of Tenn Brown Phos and 200-400 lb or even up to a 1000 lb on western sodic or calcitic of NKS Plus, you have spread every known major or minor mineral except N. The higher the rates you spread at one time the more time and fuel you save, the more years you can go without spreading them again. You still may need to get the more of the main trace minerals, boron, copper, zinc, iron and manganese replaced, as the tests coming through our labs indicate. These are usually available in the sulfate form from local Ag suppliers. However, the further you go south or west away from the mixed crop, dairy and horticulture Ag, the harder it is to find them. I suggest “leaning” on your local supplier to call their up line to find them in the system as they are usually just too lazy to try, or don’t understand why you would possibly want them. To spread them in reasonable, small quantities I suggest you blend them with an as small as possible amount of a “filler” such as pelletized gypsum or lime, or even a few pounds of ammonium sulfate if your not certified organic.

Boron is a special case due to its potential toxicity and propensity to leach.I suggest using our product, Mineral Water, as a chelator for Sol-u-Bor and put it out with a broadcast liquid spray.

I suggest you use liquids as broadcast and/or in row for your annual or regular fertilization as well as foliar feeding. You have lots of choices. You can add more N-P-K in the form of “Hot Mixes” such as 9-18-9, fish, seaweed, liquid trace minerals, compost teas, carbohydrates, microbes, enzymes and, of course, our Mineral Water to chelate, activate and stimulate everything else. To make a really efficient foliar spray, try Mineral Water and KASIL I (not organic yet), a potassium silicate, along with other products above. I can’t imagine not having a boom or mist sprayer to operate a biological/organic/quantum Ag operation.

GRAZEFEST: The Jackson, MS conference was excellent. I also attended the Stockman Grass Farmer class on year round grassfed grazing prior to the conf. Here are some of my observations. We have the knowledge and technology to produce/finish excellent grassfed beef on a year round basis most anywhere in the US. We have the genetics, the forage species needed and the fencing and watering systems to support the paradigm. The two biggest glitches appear to be a misinterpreted USDA rule on carcass cooling [cooling to fast destroys the tenderness] and a lack of agronomic knowledge by growers of how to produce high energy, [not high protein] forages capable of finishing.

This lack of knowledge is very sad, since the sustainable agronomist like Dr. Reams and Dr. Albrecht, started providing it over fifty years ago. The problem is exacerbated in the south by what I consider institutional paradigm paralysis. By this, I mean that the institutions in the South such as Universities, Agronomists, Chemical Companies, Elevators, etc. have failed to keep up even more than the rest of the country. Why they are so far behind is probably best described by the usual “power, money and politics”. Regardless of the reasons, it is important for the welfare of the southern grazier that this paradigm changes as fast as possible. It mostly falls to individual growers to pressure the institutions that serve them to “catch up”. And the quickest way to do that is to start using the practices and materials that are already so common in the rest of the country. The institutions get upset when the grower appears to be far better informed than they are and then the institutions suddenly discover this “new information” and they can’t wait to tell it to other less informed growers. It is still difficult to buy trace minerals at most local farm stores in the south, but you can buy lots of wormers and fly control!

One of the glaring examples of being behind the curve is the presence of 0-46-0 in system and the absence of MAP [11-52-0] or DAP [18-46-0] in many areas. Triple Super phosphate (0-46-0) “gets you” in at least three ways. First, since it is an “open” phosphate molecule, it quickly grabs some calcium and reverts to a “hard rock” phosphate. You are lucky to have 15% of the phosphate actually ever get into your grass. Secondly, the calcium you tied up with the phosphate is your prime nutrient needed and determines the total volume of grass produced. Since failure to lime is common, you have now made the problem of low calcium even worse. Thirdly, the hard rock calcium phosphate molecule you have created in your soil is toxic to mycorrhizia, the main root fungi that brings phosphorous into your grass. Then the common practice is to throw nitrogen at the problem, which produces watery plants with short chain amino acids and excess nitrates. The excess nitrates and short chain amino acids create BUN, blood urea nitrogen in your stock, which draws parasites and FLIES!

The south has the best climate/potential to take advantage of the grassfed paradigm, but until the growers start realizing that all of the “problems” they have that require a purchased “chemical rescue” are caused by their own practices, then little will change. All the vested interests that are making money off the grower certainly aren’t going to help them. Talk is cheap, so let me relate an example of a grower who followed our recommendations. He approached me at the conf. and relayed the following: He had two pastures, with only a 2 lane road between them. He followed all our recommendations on one and left off one of two sulfur sources on the other. Where he had adequate sulfur, which helps turn nitrogen into long chain amino acids, he had very few flies. On the other side of the road, the animals were being bothered. And as he said, “there was no fly netting down the middle of the road”!

WESTERN/RANGE GRAZIERS: Fertilizing rangeland is an “iffy” situation. Water appears to be the limiting factor, but can small judicious amounts of materials make a difference? Since all life begins with minerals, we should look there first. A good CEC test can tell us if there are essential minerals so low as to fail to take advantage of the limited water that is available. Replacing them by aerial means can be evaluated from an economic standpoint.

Microorganisms are the second consideration. They can be applied in very small quantities along with a food supply (protein and carbohydrates) during the “wet season” and then they can establish and go into dormancy during the cold or dry season.

Humic acids are a third consideration. They provide both minerals and carbon to hold moisture. See next page about “Water Minerals”. All above can be applied in small enough quantities for helicopter or fixed wing use.

The ultimate consideration is to use strictly energy patterns. We know from “radionics” you can increase the physical amount and the energy given off of any material up to about 10%. We know from the principles of homeopathy and “biodynamics” that we can concentrate energy patterns known to produce specific effects into small amounts of liquid that can be applied or “broadcast” electronically. If we can’t justify applying anything by ground or air, than pure energy/pattern broadcasting towers that can cover thousands of acres are available through CSI. We have two different kinds. The Lovel type can cover up to 4000 acres and uses specific Rudolph Steiner type frequencies. The Tainio type can cover thousands of acres and lets nature select the energies that are important. Call if you like to discuss. Cost can run to as little as $1.00/acre.

REPORTS FROM THE FIELD: An organic corn farmer from Iowa couldn’t believe he had no grass in his corn! Later, only a few broadleaf appeared. A Michigan dairy farmer reports that the udders sure loosened up when he started using Dr. Wheeler’s Vinegar with Garlic & Yucca. A greenhouse grower reports that plants are phonotropic, i.e., they turned and grew toward the source of the “Veges Sound” coming from the boom box playing the tape. A client reports his bee keeper can’t figure out why his bees do so much better on his property compared to others. [How about higher brix and less, if any, pesticides?]

ROCK MINERAL POWDERS: CSI carried Azomite® on its price list for several seasons. We only wanted to sell semi-loads, but had frequent calls for one or more pallets of bags. When we gave them the price quote plus the shipping, they all passed, so we removed it from our price list. Now we have found another mineral, Summa, in the same price range, but it appears to work at about ¼ the rate. It has a paramagnetic reading of about 2100 CGS. The company research is showing an excellent response at about 350 lbs/acre. For high value crops, it might be worth a look. The price is $240/ton or $264/metric ton as it comes in 20 metric ton bags per truckload. If you figure at least $140/ton freight into Midwest from CA, you would be looking at $400/metric ton delivered. One metric ton would do 7 plus acres or about $55/acre. The company indicates that you need at least 2 % organic matter to get it to work at the 350 # rate to replace any other fertilization ordinarily used. They have berry, fruit and vegetable research going on with very large farms, so CSI will probably report same in Jan.

SEAWEED ON THE GROUND: Although CSI has historically recommended liquid seaweed (Nitrozyme) as a foliar, I am willing to concede that in-row application may have value enough to justify the cost [about $5.00/acre at the pint level]. Although rich in trace minerals and other unknown growth factors, the primary reaction is hormonal. The growth hormone is known as cytokinnen. We have a seed corn grower who has ordered Nitrozyme for use in the row each of the last five seasons after noting the reaction during the first season’s experimental use and continued benefit thereafter. Any cooler, wet spring with the usual slowing of growth would make the grower happy that he decided to use Nitrozyme in the row.

We recommend the Nitrozyme because it is the only brand that is labeled as a hormone and the amount of hormone is guaranteed. It is certified organic. We have worked with the manufacturer for over 30 years and we know the quality control is top notch.

ASIAN SOYBEAN RUST: Although the potential devastating outbreak didn’t occur this season, the spores are now in the mid-west and must be taken into account for next years planning. Next years outbreak of ASR, if it happens, may be very rapid because the spores are here. Be sure to plan way ahead, so as not to be caught without rescue material. CSI was pleased to be asked to be a supplier of Ballad, a new organic fungicide that is highly effective against ASR. Some growers applied Ballad this year as test plots for the claimed yield increase and/or for white mold. The white mold control definitely worked, but have no data on yield as yet.

HUMIC/FULVIC MINERALS: Dr. Wheeler’s Animal Toddy is a leached solution of minerals in a humic/fulvic acid complex. I recently visited the producer. The visit has given me further belief in the value of the deposit and the leachate we put in the bottle. The producer has experience going back 2 generations as to what the product can do. Here is a partial list of the uses he has seen over the years: Feed to livestock for its anti-staph and E coli properties, use as liniment on livestock, treat skin disorders, treat udder problems, spray chicken houses or hog barns between flocks/groups as a disinfectant, use with fish on pastures at the 1/2 pint/acre rate, and spray on other crops at the same rate. For graziers, the best method of getting Toddy into your stock is to add 1 pint of Todddy to 50 lbs. of white salt and put out free choice.

Selling a labeled feed product is expensive in term of labeling, registration, etc. However, the same material can be purchase in 55 gal drums as “Water Mineral” for $40/gal FOB. Since the soil and plant application rate is only 8 oz/acre, this gives you a very effective humic/fulvic multi-mineral complex for only $2.50 an acre. What else you use it for is up to you. There will be no label claims or anything else on the barrel except “Water Minerals”. If you want to try it out, buy a gallon or two of Animal Toddy and do some plant & soil tests yourself.

TAINIO MICROBES IN THE FALL: The labels on most of the Tainio bacterial products suggest starting them in the fall to get the maximum effect for next year’s crop. Applying them to crop residue or bare ground with fish, carbohydrates, etc. should give you maximum return for next spring. Remember, Tainio “bugs’ and SP-1 are the best ones we have found.

APPLE SCAB CONTROL: GW Agriculture has reported promising results using their FI [Fungus Interruptus] Steiner type sprays in New England on orchards. Best results appear to require using FI about every 3 weeks during the fungal/scab season, assuming normal use of GW Ag’s seasonal sprays as well. Their “Compost Invigorator” clearly enhances microbial activity in compost teas as shown by powerful microscopic analysis.

TENN. BROWN & COMPOST: For those of you who have been asking for less than truck loads of Tenn. Brown Phos., you may now purchase same from Morgan Composting of Sears, MI. They have agreed to bag [50 #], bulk bag [approx. 1200 #] or blend Tenn. Brown into compost and ship to you in same sizes or bulk. They are willing and able to ship individual bags. You may call them at 231 734-2451. They have multiple sites throughout MI. If you want semi loads of straight Tenn. Brown or blended with compost, please continue to call CSI.

Morgan Composting will have an open house with speakers and a farmer user panel on Friday, Sept. 16th at their site 4.5 miles east of Evart on south side of road. Program will start at 12:30 for displays, with speakers and panels to follow at 1:00 until 4:30 when Tour of facility will begin. Closing and refreshments at 6:00. Yours truly will be there.

SOIL RESTORE SALE: The manufacturer has offered a 10% discount on Restore and Liquid Bacteria for the period 9/15/05 to 10/15/05. Many of you have had excellent response to these products that use homeopathic [energy] concepts to clean up soil and stimulate mycorrhizia.

CALENDER: Louisa & I will be attending the National Biodynamic Conf. in TN on Oct.15. Then on to TX where we will install a “Broadcaster” near Austin, visit Acres USA, marina/houseboat shop on Lake Travis and visit several other customer/dealer/suppliers. Then North to Tulsa, OK (see two grandsons.) and then to KS to install 2 Broadcasters for a dealer in Lacygne. If you need services/visits during that week of Oct.16th, please let us know ASAP. We will be at Acres Conf. in Indianapolis on Dec. 8-10. We will be in Brazil from Jan. 7-17, 06, so don’t expect phone calls or orders to be handled during that time.

OFFICE SCHEDULE: We will continue to try to close Fridays and Saturdays this fall so we can have our two weekend days on the houseboat or other activities. We also may extend the same schedule throughout the year where possible. Don’t hesitate to call on Friday, but there is a chance that your call/order may not be handled till Monday.
